The Jennifer Kostuik Gallery presents the 8th solo exhibition by Los Angeles, CA based Colleen Flynn- Lawson.
In Catching Life, Colleen Flynn-Lawson has returned to the visually suggestive form of a net; nets that cradle imaginary societies full of life and bearing the weight of the structure, as in Yah, or nets presented as weightless and light, seemingly only holding air. Building mysterious forms that are both familiar and foreign has been an ongoing theme throughout Flynn-Lawson’s art. Her talent in conveying her thoughts and beliefs lies in her unique ability to create almost an intaglio effect of drawn and bled lines mastered by Flynn-Lawson’s use of acrylic on panel. Sensuous and organic, strange and lovely describe the impressions felt in this exciting body of work.
With the nets, my desire is to have every line be true: every line is connected to every other line, and they affect one another. The underlying sense in these worlds is that everything acts in one of two ways: straining, falling off and falling away, or being mended, rebuilt and strengthened. That is where the harmony occurs, that is the dance that fascinates me, and that is what I am striving to capture in my paintings.
