Artist Statement

In Catching Life, Flynn Lawson has returned to the visually suggestive form of a net; nets that cradle imaginary societies full of life and bearing the weight of the structure as portrayed, as in Yah, or nets presented as weightless and light, seemingly only holding air. Building mysterious forms that are both familiar and foreign has been an ongoing theme throughout Flynn Lawson’s works. Her talent in conveying her thoughts and beliefs lies in her unique ability to create almost an intaglio effect of drawn and bled lines mastered by Flynn Lawson’s use of acrylic on panel. Sensuous and organic, strange and lovely describe the impressions felt in this exciting body of work.

Artist Statement

My painting method is largely about the interaction between pigment and water. I continue to feel like an observer; I am as fascinated by the process as I am by the images I produce. Each piece became its own separate world…or at least a very separate place within a world. Tiny, mysterious societies appeared as if I was leaning into some alien tide pool or peeking into a forest knot. While working on several simultaneously, I watched more relationships evolve between the beings, ultimately creating a body of work that comprises my past painting concepts and compositions into a new presentation and a new viewing point.
