Colleen Flynn Lawson is based in Los Angeles, California and has been exhibiting in California, the East Coast of the USA and Canada since focusing on her career as a full time artist in 2000. A self -taught painter, Flynn Lawson engages in an automatist, intuitive style of painting exclusively with acrylic on panel.
The artist relinquishes control as she allows the spontaneous alchemy between her mediums to unfold. Her surfaces are scraped, molded, and formed to both obscure and reveal almost a fossil-like imprint. The visual world she creates is reminiscent of micro life-forms engaged in a process of transformation, presenting to the viewer meditations on the beauty and cyclical nature of life: birth, life, decay, and death, before being ushered back onto the path of rebirth.
Flynn Lawson describes the core of her process as revealing an ever shifting universe and the idea that there is a hidden connectedness between everything that which can be expressed visually in form.
