William Betts

Born and raised in New York City, resided in Houston Texas and is currently based in Miami Florida. In 1991, graduating with a Bachelar
of Arts, Studio Art-Cum Laude from Arizona State University, William Betts has exhibited throughout North America and Europe. His artwork has been featured in the group exhibition, Rasterfahndung (Tracing the Grid), Kunstmuseum, in Stuttgart, Germany, in the Arlington Museum
of Art, The University of Texas, The Salt Lake City Art Center, The University of Wisconsin, Eau-Claire, and the Albuquerque Museum. His selected Bibliography includes The Creators Project (video interview), June 2016; Politiken, Københagen, Photo Essay, March 28, 2016; Kinetic, Art from Polsinelli Art Collection, Privately Published 2015; Victoria Machmudov, Under övervakningsradarn, Konstperspektiv, Sweden, June, 2014 and Rasterfahndung (Tracing the Grid), Kunstmuseum Stuttgar (Show Catalog). He was named New American Painting Annual Prize winner in 2011 and featured in issues #60, #72, #84, and #96

William Betts had a career in tech industries where he established proficiency in computer language and programing. From this, he uses complex industrial processes to create paintings that reflect the possibilities for an analog medium in a digital age. Betts uses his own source material (photographs/videos) as data sets to be examined, sampled, re-contextualized, manipulated and represented. Typically less interested in content and more concerned with the structural and social aspects of the image.

Georg Kuettinger

Georg Kuettinger

Georg Kuettinger

German based photography artist, Kuettinger’s debut photographic series Landscape: Remixed is an examination of perception, horizons and a density of space and time, assembled to present stories of landscapes. Single photographic images are stretched, shifted and compressed into one picture frame to create the simultaneous image of a scene.

The artist’s intent is to have each single shot of a different point of view be given a new context within the structure of the image – creating, not deceptions, but possibilities of the landscapes they are based on. Concentrating on images of land as a result of human interactions, the concept and terms of Landscapes: Remixed is similar to a song remix by a DJ. The remix is a visual re editing of the rhythm and shape of the motif, as well as the changing of the time tracking the main aspect of a designed landscape to be elaborated as the concept or idea of the structure of the image. This “customized” construction is created analogously to the selective perception of the observer, thus impressing a memory of the landscape as voyage. The resulting impression is neither from a dream perspective nor a viewpoint one can understand and accept as real. Küttinger’s art form then, becomes abstracted panoramas of dynamism and contemplation.

Kuettinger studied architecture with a main focus on conceptual urbanism at the Technical University of Munich. He received his degree as an architect in 1999. Georg has been working as a self-taught photography artist since then. His fascination for photography started when he won his first camera at the age of 9 – in a drawing competition on the subject of woods and snakes. A highlight of his career was being selected from artists across Western Europe to have his work featured in a solo booth as a ‘promising emerging artist’ at KIAF art fair Seoul 2008.

Küttinger has shown in a wealth of solo and group exhibitions, as well as being represented at art fairs in Europe, Asia and Canada. The Kostuik Gallery has been representing Georg since 2015.

  • Georg Kuettinger – landscapes | Remixed Press Release – Download PDF

German based photography artist, Kuettinger’s debut. Landscape has always offered artists immense potential onto which they could project ideas because Nature offers endless creative freedom. Moving away from pure documentation of land and water scenes, Kuettinger’s images are rather a multitude of different photographs the artist has taken to remix and reform into his own renditions of the mood and feel of the locations he has experienced. Images from the hillsides of  Turkey and Greece, mountain ranges in  Switzerland, the hypnotic flats of Spain and The Netherlands, and Kuettinger’s newest  images in North America of the majestic Niagara Falls, Canada and the impressionistic vistas of New Mexico, USA.

The term landscape is a cultural influenced construct – a term that has evolved in our modern times as a result of human interaction – ski tracks on a bare mountain or divided fields used for cultivation.. Kuettinger plays with what the observer understands as identifiable images and expected experiences of certain areas of the world. Through the voyage of one’s eye in Kuettinger’s rhythmic compositions and clever color combinations, one feels that the depictions are either real or some distant memory.

David Burdeny

David Burdeny

David Burdeny

“These works present my abiding interest in the thresholds that divide and connect    the sea to land. I am fascinated with the quality of light and the spatial immensity of the ocean. I have enormous reverence for feeling so small in the presence of something so vast, where perspective, scale, time and distance momentarily become intangible. Photographing as a process of clarifying this quality, I work towards creating formalized, liminal spaces. The glory lies not in this act of clarification or reduction, but in the experience of what is left – sublime experience located in ordinary space: a slowly moving sky, the sun moving across a boulders surface or sea foam swirling around a pylon. Exposed under the light of dusk and dawn, the shutter is held open for several minutes, recording the ocean and sky as it continuously repositions itself on the negative, a process both dependent upon and vulnerable to chance. The resultant image is an accretion of past and present. Each moment is layered over the moment immediately preceding it – a single image that embodies the weight of cumulative time and unending metamorphosis. “
