AJ Oishi
Rooted in a fascination with color, geometry, and the artistic process, Oishi’s work is created using paint on the eraser side of a #2 pencil in a deliberate, pointillist approach. Adding thousands of dots together and using specific color combinations present a meditative experience presented to the viewer.
“Most people are surprised by the patience that is required, but I don’t feel overwhelmed by my process. This is the work I enjoy doing to bring moments of calm and serenity to my paintings.”
The choice of a tool that is traditionally used to remove something (an eraser) is particularly poignant as the circular patterns created awaken a sense of awareness and moments of pause. There is an intoxicating effect in the presence of these forms, drawing the viewer in for periods of respite.
“I am fascinated by color and the many combinations that can be used. No matter how long I paint, color will always provide endless possibilities.”

AJ Oishi is a self-taught painter known for her distinctive approach to abstract pointillism. A Seattle native, Oishi spent much of her professional career in roles demanding precision, organization, and analytical thinking. These skills seamlessly translated into her painting practice, where meticulous techniques and careful control are harmonized with her innate sense of color. The result is a body of work characterized by balance, intricacy, and an almost mathematical attention to detail, drawing the viewer into a world of vibrant, textured compositions.
Oishi has enjoyed participating in shows in San Francisco, New York, Miami, Vancouver, Park City, Dallas, and Boston, and is represented by fine art galleries throughout North America. Her work can be found in several private and corporate art collections. She joined the Kostuik Gallery, Vancouver Canada in January 2019.
