Katja Zubkova

Katja Zubkova (b. 1989).

Katja Zubkova was born in Russia in 1989 and raised in Canada from a young age. She spent her early life pursuing art and sports including participating in Canada’s High Performance biathlon team with ambitions for the Olympics.

Katja is largely a self-taught artist with periods of training at the Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver, British Columbia. Katja began pursuing painting full time in 2014 following a period of overseas travel and artist residences in Thailand. In 2019, Katja’s practice evolved into sculptural explorations of ceramic wall installations. She went on to incorporate over ten varieties of rare, ethically sourced woods, including repurposed wood. Katja’s studio is currently located in Vancouver, Canada where she resides with her husband and daughter. She has been represented by Jennifer Kostuik Gallery since June 2024.
