Story of this Artwork

Dora Maar was a pioneering French Surrealist photographer and painter. She was the muse for Picasso’s “Weeping Woman, 1937” painting. Maar met Picasso in 1935 and they were partners until 1943. During that time, she introduced Picasso to new artistic techniques. When Picasso painted his anti-war masterpiece Guernica, Maar served as the official photographer, documenting the painting’s evolution step-by-step in her studio.
